Wanderings

I recognise that I am a pattern seeker, a ‘Pareidolian’ through and through! I became intrigued to see if I could create a large scale drawing where my eye would not find a pattern. I considered this as making in essence a painting of ‘white noise’. The early starting points combined elements of the ‘Threads Series’ of line drawings but more regular and even, with vertical and horizontal lines allowing for the colour to be added to the squares – the intention being to let the eye travel over the painting not caught by the hint or suggestion of a pattern allowing the eye to wander and therefore ultimately rest.

The discovery of Acrylic Inks and Paints turned this series up a notch. Using a black canvas, and layering primary colours to act in a similar way avoiding the chance of pattern became a new obsession! I was keen to see the effect of obscuring part of the background on the pattern below, the result is this series of paintings some with intense pathways others less so, all invite you in to wander in and around them.
